This striking image captures a stellar jet in the Carina nebula. This image was taken by the Hubble Space Telescope using the visible light spectrum. This section of this particular pillar of gas and dust is three light-years in length. This dense cloud houses young stars, assisted in their growth by the intense heat and radiation of the bright stars nearby in the same nebula. While this stellar jet looks majestic captured in this still life moment, scientists estimate the cloud is actually expanding and moving at up to 850,000 miles per hour. The total estimated length of the pillar is about ten light-years. The Hubble Space Telescope's WFC3 Wide Field Camera used multiple filters to create this dramatic full color composite image.
