The Carina Nebula is one of the largest observed nebulae. Sometimes referred to as the Great Carina Nebula or the Eta Carina Nebula (after the star), this massive star-making region sits in the Carina constellation and is a mere 6,500-10,000 light-years away. The nebula was first observed by Nicolas Louis de Lacaille in 1751. In addition to containing some of the more famous astrological objects, such as Eta Carinae, the Homonculus Nebula, the Keyhole Nebula, and the Mystic Mountain, the large Carina Nebula is home to some of the youngest stars that we have discovered. Star Cluster Trumpler 14 is only 500,000 years old, a baby by the standards of the universe. While the Carina Nebula has been historically less well known as other nebulae, such as the Orion Nebula, this image has become one of the most famous photos taken by the Hubble Space Telescope. Every Astronomy Image Source print comes with an inset, custom-built, extruded aluminum float mount. The lip and groove combination on the aluminum piece allows for the use of a variety of standard picture hanging hardware (not included). Prints will hang approximately half of an inch off the wall and appear to float from most viewing angles and cast a nice shadow. IMAGE CREDIT: Credit for Hubble Image: NASA, ESA, N.
